Digital Media in Education

The following projects reflect my work in utilizing key software tools to create learning experiences in the digital world. While an understanding of the necessary software tools was critical, importance was also placed on best practices in usability design to create engaging and well received learning material.

Concordia University Sustainability Infographic

This project required us to create an infographic based on key sustainability initiatives Concordia University has implemented throughout the university network. I created the infographic using Adobe Illustrator, and the assets included both text and images. In designing this infographic, I was careful to integrated Concordia University branding, key design principles as well as consider usability.

PetSmart Learning Program

For this project, I was asked to design and develop a learning program using Adobe Captivate as the authoring tool. Based on a report, in this case a PetSmart annual report, I developed a learning program for stockholders to better understand the company’s strategic initiatives, and how the new and current strategies would work together to increase profits for the organization. The learning program was also developed using Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, to work with pictures and icons used in the learning program, and to ensure that they followed PetSmart branding and were well thought out design elements. Prior to developing the learning program, I developed a detailed information architecture and storyboard to have a strong overview of how the learning program would unfold.

As the first digital learning program I developed, it provided me with the opportunity to see how the process required a strong planning phase, with both the information architecture and storyboard, as well as seeing it as an iterative process during usability testing. While there was a slight learning curve to better understand how to best use Adobe Captivate, the final learning program ultimately took into account how the user would best interact with and benefit from the learning program.
